Trust in the future of NHS Trusts! - powerPerfector Plc is helping to alleviate certain financial, legislative, and environmental pressures faced by public healthcare organisations via the installation of its unique VPO Voltage Power Optimisation® technology. Liaison with various government agencies and installations at NHS hospitals has confirmed that powerPerfector units are delivering marked improvements in power quality and dramatic reductions in electricity consumption at both acute and non-acute sites - a recent tender win (confirmed in January this year) will result in Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, being supplied with a large powerPerfector Plus unit (1500 kVA) to reduce electricity consumption by 9%.

The installation of the powerPerfector Plus unit, which responds intelligently to the incoming supply voltage to bring it to its optimum, builds on the already impressive sustainable energy measures implemented by the Trust, which include solar panel and more efficient boiler installations. By bringing the voltage to its optimum and improving power quality, the unit is anticipated to save:

• Over 300,000 kWhs of electricity and £45,000 per year; and,
• Reducing the following associated upstream emissions per annum (approx): 180 tonnes of CO2, 380 kgs of NOx  and 11 kgs of PM10.

Alexander Beckett, who manages powerPerfector Plc's Public Healthcare Strategy, said:
'We are delighted to help Princess Alexandra Hospital bolster its response to the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, and the NHS's Carbon Reduction Strategy by installing our energy efficiency technology. Anticipated electricity cost and consumption increases, and reducing environmental and human health impacts by reducing upstream emissions, make this an important time to make significant energy savings. For instance, NOx (oxides of nitrogen) and PM10 (particulate matter) emissions worsen air quality and The Air Quality Strategy for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, 2007 states that "Air pollution is currently estimated to reduce the life expectancy of every person in the UK by an average of 7-8 months with estimated equivalent health costs of up to £20 billion each year".

Many trusts have recognized that powerPerfector Plc is the sole supplier of this unique technology in Europe and that we have adopted a responsible approach to working with all types of public healthcare sites. Ambulance, primary care, mental health and acute sites are benefiting from optimising their supplies - Julian Hospital of Norfolk and Waveney NHS Mental Health Trust is achieving 16.8% savings; and Carlton Court Hospital of Gloucester NHS Trust is achieving a minimum of 8% savings.
