Energy management and controls specialists AEC Environmental are pleased to report over 30% savings across a range of communal heating systems for Wandsworth Council. The project was 100% funded through the CERT scheme and the results have all been independently verified. AEC were responsible for revising the main plant controls strategy to eliminate inefficiencies and ensure a good match of heating supply to demand using their tried and tested analytical techniques.
A few facts and figures:
Number of district heating systems; 5
Total number of dwellings improved; 835
Savings across the sites; 30.45%
Annual CO2 reductions; 670 tonnes
The programme was helped by the fact that Wandsworth’s plant and controls were well maintained and in good working order, which is not always the case in large plant rooms. More Wandsworth district heating systems, which are currently, still being improved and monitored within the scheme are showing similar levels of improvement and by the end total CO2 savings should be on target for 1000 tonnes per annum.
The savings are being managed through AEC’s energy management suite of reporting software to ensure that optimal configurations are being maintained at all times for Wandsworth.
AEC are working with a number of social housing providers to improve the energy efficiency of district heating systems and are experiencing similar results across the board. “It is staggering what improvements in efficiency can be made without any major works or plant down time” said Julian Miller of AEC, “time and time again we see situations, in both the public and private sector where we are able to deliver double digit savings.”
The project was 100% funded by EDF Energy through the carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme for which AEC’s technology has been approved. AEC are also partnering with EDF Energy to look at opportunities for savings through the CESP scheme (community energy savings project)
