Tim Scott, chairman and founder of clean technology group ENER-G (www.energ.co.uk) has won high praise from a parliamentary and industry campaign for green energy.

Tim was highly commended for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy’ at the Associate Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group (PRASEG) awards.

He received his commendation from Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Hunt at a ceremony on Wednesday 2 December at the Commonwealth Club in central London.

Tim was nominated for the prestigious PRASEG award by the Combined Heat & Power Association (CHPA) in recognition of ENER-G’s contribution to sustainable and renewable energy supplies worldwide through advanced technologies such as CHP.

PRASEG is the cross-party group for UK politicians and senior industry stakeholders that promotes sustainable energy issues in Parliament and the wider political community.

Commenting on Tim’s achievement, Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of PRASEG, said: “Tim is to be applauded for winning the argument for sustainable energy - not in a debating chamber - but in the challenging environment of the competitive industrial marketplace. ENER-G has demonstrated beyond any doubt that sustainable energy can go hand in glove with commercial success.”

Awards judge David Green, Secretary of PRASEG, added: “The CHP industry is among the most vibrant sustainable technologies industries, in a sector where powerful growth is showing no signs of slowing, and the development of CHP as a viable business model is in large part down to the innovative work carried out by ENER-G under Tim’s leadership.”

The recognition from PRASEG follows CHPA‘s Sustainable Development Award which ENER-G won last year for its innovative CHP ‘trigeneration’ scheme at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. The company’s pioneering energy from waste division, Energos, has also won multiple awards for its next generation gasification from residual waste facilities.

Graham Meeks, Director of the CHPA, said: “Tim has demonstrated innovation, enterprise and determination in building the ENER-G group to a position where it can deliver comprehensive solutions to today's energy challenges. He is a commercial and sustainability pioneer and this has rightly been celebrated.

“The distributed energy sector in the UK is going from strength to strength, on one hand through the continued efforts of our policymakers in Parliament, and on the other through the vision and commitment of business leaders like Tim, who understand the opportunity and are turning policies into practical action.”

ENER-G has manufactured more than 1,400 CHP systems at its Greater Manchester production site and headquarters in Salford. A major player in the UK and European CHP market, the business has reduced its customers’ carbon emissions by millions of tonnes.

CHP systems create electricity and heat simultaneously and reduce carbon emissions by around 20% while cutting electricity costs by approximately one third. ENER-G’s CHP units have been installed in hospitals, hotels, leisure centres, supermarkets and factories worldwide, and among its high-profile customers is the British Royal family at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

Group turnover has grown five-fold over the past five years and is set to reach £134 million this year. The business has some 700 employees worldwide and operates companies in the UK, Hungary, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Norway and Poland, plus joint ventures in South Africa, Mexico and Spain.

ENER-G develops, finances and delivers renewable and energy efficient power generation and management schemes. The group provides a complete end-to-end solution for all commercial and industrial energy requirements. Its engineering and service solutions include every aspect of energy management.
