Hugh Richmond, Managing Director of UK renewable energy business ENER-G Natural Power, has been named International Business Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors (IOD) North West.
The award recognizes his personal achievements in leading the company’s global expansion, into markets as far and wide as South Africa, Hungary, Lithuania Poland, Spain and Mexico.
The company, part of the Greater Manchester-based ENER-G group (www.energ.co.uk), harnesses renewable energy from biogas - sourced from landfill waste sites, anaerobic digestion and mines.
From its Salford headquarters, ENER-G Natural Power designs and manufactures biogas generation technology that converts methane and other greenhouse gases into renewable energy, and provides a full end-to-end service from installation to operation and maintenance.
Among an impressive portfolio of international business, the company has secured approximately 70% of the landfill gas generation market in South Africa. It has also won major contracts in Poland and Lithuania – helping local communities to secure valuable green energy and income from methane emissions.
He was presented with the prestigious award, sponsored by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) at the IOD’s gala awards dinner in Manchester on 7 October.
Hugh Richmond said: “I am delighted to receive this prestigious award from the IOD, but the recognition must be shared by my exceptional team. Together we are driving an ambitious international trade strategy and achieving global leadership in the landfill gas generation sector. The projects we are involved in are making a big difference to the communities we serve, both in the environmental and income benefits they bring and the skilled jobs they create".
“We are very proud of our achievements and are excited by our move into innovative new technologies to capitalise on new markets in anaerobic digestion and mines gas, particularly our pioneering work to capture gas from coal bed methane, which is a highly technologically advanced process".
Presenting the award, Mike Eccleshall, Deputy Director of UKTI North West, said: “This award is very well deserved and Hugh demonstrates excellent leadership in steering business growth through international trade. He sets the standard for others to follow and his company is a shining example of UK technological and innovative excellence – making an important contribution to our national economy.”
