DANLERS’ surface mounted passive infra red occupancy switches have recently been installed in the chiller warehouse units of Sharps Brewery in Cornwall to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs. Prior to the installation, lights were left on constantly even though the room was rarely occupied, wasting a great deal of energy.

Rob Lucas of Wilts Wholesale Electrical was given the task of specifying an energy efficient lighting installation using lighting and controls to comply with L2 regulations and the BREEAM report.

DANLERS PIR occupancy switches were the obvious solution. The price, availability and reliability of the products persuaded Lucas to choose DANLERS products for this particular job.

Passive infra-red occupancy switches detect the movement of people in their vicinity and turn the load on and off accordingly. Each model in the DANLERS range includes a passive infra-red quad person detector, an adjustable time lag before switch off, an adjustable photocell override and a relay for switching up to 6 amps (1500W).

Since their installation, the number of hours that the lights are left on for has reduced significantly and costs have reduced in line with this, as have carbon emissions.

Lucas said, ‘Our client, Sharps Brewery, is really pleased with the savings it’s getting compared to having the fittings on all day.
