ESTA, the Energy Services and Technology
Association, is the UK’s leading Energy Management
industry association. ESTA focuses on demand side energy
efficiency of buildings, building services and process
services. ESTA considers issues beyond pure energy consumption
to those systems and processes that influence the whole
life cost of a building. These include maintenance and
management costs and the effectiveness of the working
space in creating a better environment that can positively
impact on staff output. So anyone involved in the design,
construction and management of non-domestic buildings
will find the ESTA web site a valuable source of information.
ESTA has a membership of over 100 suppliers
of products and services covering energy efficient monitoring,
control, operation and management of buildings, building
services and process services. These companies have
a commitment to promoting energy efficient systems and
practices and by joining the ranks of ESTA have signalled
their genuine intention to assist building designers
and managers to improve working environments and reduce
operational costs.
The UK Government is committed to reducing
Greenhouse Gas and CO2 emissions via the UK Climate
Change Programme (CCP) and numerous associated initiatives.
ESTA has played a significant role in CCP consultation
processes and its numerous initiatives such as Climate
Change Levy, Building Regulations, Enhanced Capital
Allowances, Building energy labelling and current issues
such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment and the Energy
Services Directive. Our knowledge of these initiatives
and experience in their development could prove vital
in enabling you to achieve savings that ultimately prove
greater than the cost of the Climate Change Levy.
We believe that the whole climate change
agenda represents an excellent opportunity for Energy
and Facilities Managers to gain boardroom support for
energy and environmental initiatives. It can be the
key to moving energy towards the top of the Board’s
agenda and with it all aspects of Energy Management.
Energy Management must not be confined
to the year-on-year comparison of consumption levels,
but needs to consider how existing systems and practices
currently impact on operational costs and how they can
be improved. In addition, it needs to be aware of new
and changing government legislation that could well
penalise your current mode of operation. It is for this
reason that ESTA is maintaining its links with the Carbon
Trust together with organisations such as Defra Department
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, CLG Communities
and Local Government, BERR Department for Business,
Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and is also a member
of the Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies.
ESTA are also members of:
- PGES Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies www.pges.org.uk
- Trade Association Forum www.taforum.org
- BEEF British Energy Efficiency Federation, a grouping of energy efficiency organisations providing a regular forum with Government.
- DIAG Directive Industry Advisory Group – a grouping of professional, industry and trade bodies that assist and advise CLG on the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. www.diag.org.uk
